Contraception

Contraception

There are a variety of methods of contraception available. We can assist you to choose the best method for yourself and your partner.

Discussion of contraceptive options includes consideration of your social situation, fertility plans, medical and gynaecological issues, and, importantly, your previous experiences and personal preferences.

There are a wide range of contraceptive pills that can be considered for individual needs.

  • Condoms and diaphragms
  • Contraceptive Pills
  • Emergency Contraception

Long acting contraception – particularly intra-uterine devices – are becoming very popular. The Mirena has been used for many years; offering 99.3% contraceptive cover; control of heavy periods; and balance for estrogen replacement therapy at menopause.

The Kyleena device has recently also become available. Like the Mirena it offers 5 years contraceptive cover; has less hormone content and is a smaller device.

We offer a respectful discussion of contraceptive options. If an intra-uterine device is chosen, we can offer placement in the consulting rooms or as a day case under sedation if preferred.
